Arc Text does not appear when DXF file is imported into AutoCAD.

Applies to:

ProCogo XL

When importing a DXF file into AutoCAD that was created by ProCogo XL, the arc text does not appear in the AutoCAD drawing.

The arc text does not appear because the Arc Text library has not been loaded into AutoCAD.  By default, AutoCAD does not load this library until the first time that the ARCTEXT command is invoked.

ArcText is a function of AutoCAD's "Express Tools".  You must have Express Tools installed in order to support Arc Text.

A quick temporary solution is to simply start the ArcText command in AutoCAD, and then cancel it. This solution however only applies for the duration of that AutoCAD session.  (For a permanent solution, see solution 2 below.)

In AutoCAD:

  1. Type ARCTEXT on the command line and press <Enter>.  This will start the ArcText command which will load the library.
  2. Now press <Esc> to cancel the command.
Now use the DXF command as you normally would to import the DXF file.  The arc text should appear as expected.

Solution 2 (Recommended):

This is a one-time action that will cause the arctext library to be automatically loaded each time AutoCAD is started.

  1. Start AutoCAD
  2. On the command line, type APPLOAD.
  3. In the dialog that appears, click the "Contents" button.
  4. In the "Startup Suite" dialog that appears, click the "Add" button.
  5. Browse to the ctextapp.arx file and click Open.  (Try looking in the \Express folder where AutoCAD is installed.)
  6. Close out of the dialogs back to AutoCAD.
ArcText should now import correctly.
